Knitters are Fickle…

Posted in Uncategorized at 9:22 pm by rynserenity

AKA “I Am Weak!” part 2.

I’m sitting in my studio, typing away on my laptop, trying to get all my DM’s notes together for our Dungeons and Dragons game tomorrow, and after a few hours, I just hit a wall. Splat, just like that. All of a sudden, my mind just disengages. Ugh. So, I take a break.

What’s that I hear? My stash calling to me? “Knit a winter-weight shawl”, you say? All right, I’ll take a look. Enter The Colours:

Would you look at that? You all go together so nicely! So bright and cheery, perfect for the winter months.

What’s that piece of paper that happened to fall out of a folder whilst I was rummaging through the stash? Enter The Pattern:

(Yes, I saved this to my own server. I know better than that, guys.)

Himalaya, how I love thee. I simply must have you:

You will feel so warm and cozy around my shoulders when I’m sitting in The Faery’s backyard, playing God to a bunch of knerdy nerdy teenagers (aka DM’ing for my D&D group).

Oh, yeah. I knew there was something I was supposed to be doing.

I Am Weak!

Posted in Uncategorized at 6:46 pm by rynserenity

First of all, this is how I spent my weekend:

Yup. Painting my bathroom. Well, that and working my ass of on an English paper. Exciting, no? The colour in the picture does not do it justice; it’s this fantatically bright, “watered-down guacamole”-type colour. I love it, but it does not do wonders for my poor chemically-sensitive immune system. I’m starting to get really tired of sleeping in the living room.

In other news, I have not really worked on Sagittaria, despite my rush of affection for Muir earlier this week. I discovered a rather large mistake and had to tink back five rows consisting of hundreds of stitches. It is currently hibernating in its bag, thinking about what it’s done. I’ll probably pick it up again tonight, because, like the post’s title, I am indeed weak.

Remember that rule I’d set for myself: Thou shalt not have more than one lace project at a time? I totally just broke that rule.

I signed up for Secret of the Stole. Gods help me.

Short and Sweet

Posted in Uncategorized at 6:06 pm by rynserenity

I’m gonna have to keep today’s post relatively short guys, since I’m really wiped out from school, and I have a fair amount of homework that needs to be started soon.

Anyway, onto the knitting. I got a solid chunk of downtime to knit yesterday, so I plunked myself down on the couch and finished Chart III of Sagittaria:

(far shot shown, to give you guys an idea of how the border portion of the shawl flows into the main body pattern.)

And here’s a closeup of the stitch pattern, in all its’ cactus-like glory:

This part of the chart went really quickly, because the lace is only patterned on one side, so I kinda just blasted right through it. Chart IV, which is a little bit more involved, is printing as I’m typing this. Starting the fourth chart will be my reward for finishing all my homework. 🙂

More on the shawl later. I’m a-gonna do my homework, so I can get to the fun stuff!

Cold and Grey

The title reflects the beautiful fall day that I woke up to, and made me very, very happy. It’s knitting weather (I swear, I nearly typed “Gold and Crey”. Yay, spoonerisms!)!

Sorry for the no updates lately. I’ve been dealing with some health issues that I really don’t want to discuss at this time (mainly because I don’t know what I’m dealing with yet, and its’ severity), so there really hasn’t been any Time to Knit, partially because I have not had the Attention Span to Knit. I do have a funny story for you, however, and there is knitting progress in it! Read on:

A few days ago, as I sat down in my studio to start working on the i-cord for Folds of Function, I heard that little chime that Gmail makes to let you know you’ve got an e-mail. It was the new Knitty. Of course, I had to look. One quick peek isn’t going to derail me too much, is it?

Then I saw it. Muir. I had to have it. I had to knit it. But alas, I have a rule: I can only have one lace project on the needles at a time. My attention turned to Sagittaria. I had to finish it, because Muir must be mine. So, I sat down to work:

And finished the last repeat of Chart II, and one-third of Chart III. The lace is only patterned on one side now, so it is moving much, much more quickly than it was a few rows earlier.

(obligatory close-up shot. You can’t really see it yet, but there’s some of Chart III in there.)

If I really push and work through it, I may be able to finish Chart III, and maybe start Chart IV, by the end of the day. Then I can turn my attention to getting the yarn for Muir. Because it must be mine.

I-cord? What i-cord?

Bad Blogger! No Biscuit!

Wow, what is up with me an not being able to update consistently lately? I am so failing at this whole “blogging” thing. This is not cool.

Anyway, I have been doing knitting stuff over the past few days, just… not very much of it. You see, I’m kind of bored with my two current WIPs. I’ve finished the body of Folds of Function:

And now all that’s left is the finishing, the embellishments, and the miles and miles of i-cord for the drawstring. That is the part I am dreading. I HATE i-cord. I feel like it takes forever, but I just have to suck it up and just get it done, because I cannot wait to see this bag when it is done! This is my contrasting colour:

It’s just a little darker than this, but this photo is pretty accurate. I think it will create a nice contrast, and it reminds me of willow-ware pottery, with the kind of blue-and-white and Asian themes I have going with this project.

Speaking of projects, enter Sagittaria:

She doesn’t really look any bigger than she did last time, does she? I assure you, though, she is. What you see is four rows away from the completion of the sixth chart repeat. I ended up getting impatient and deciding that I would do six instead of seven repeats of Chart II, so in four rows, I finally get to knit something slightly more interesting! Hurrah! I am greatly looking forward to getting to wear this shawl. It’s so beautiful! Also, I have been thinking of over-dying the wool in a sort of spring-y green when I’m done with the knitting. Does anyone have any advice for a way of doing that without accidentally felting?

Also, when it comes to this project?

I heart my drinking straw stitch markers. They’re thinner than commercial markers, they stay in place better (especially when there’s a yarnover right the hell next to it), and– best of all– they’re practically free!

So, that’s about it for actual knitting projects for now. Hopefully, I’ll update tomorrow, since I’ll be away from my computer on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. I’ll leave you with a parting shot of the current condition that my stash is in:

I think something needs to be done.

Euuuurgh. I have been totally non-responsive for the past three days because I’ve been knocked out by this vicious bitch of a virus known as rhinovirus, or, more commonly, the Common Cold:

Luckily, the worst of it (at least, I think) decided to ravage my immune system during the weekend, so I didn’t miss any school; although, let me tell you, it is an interesting experience trying to comprehend anything said by your Summative Math teacher when you’re whacked out on Sudafed, Benadryl, and whatever the hell else I’ve been swallowing trying to make my head feel like it’s not trapped in a vice any more. The Faery has been very sympathetic, and came over yesterday to spend the day with me on the couch, watching movies and giggling at my drug-induced ramblings. 🙂

Since I’ve been somewhat unresponsive for the past four days or so, that means progress on Sagittaria has… stalled, somewhat. I’ve only done another half a repeat of Chart II, but the end of the crushingly repetative pattern is in sight! I can’t wait to get on to Chart III; I’m about halfway done!

(instert picture of Sagittaria looking like a crumpled mess o’ lace, as usual)

However, I do suffer from an inability to sit still, so the Folds of Function Purse has been making loads of progress:

(My OCD is so appeased by the neat little grid the slipped stitches and the turning ridge are making)

I’m about 90% done with the knitting, but only 80% done with the entire bag. I say that because I still have to seam it, knit the bajillion miles of i-cord (read 26″), and do the finishing embroidery. Sigh. It’s going to be so pretty, though! I’m already toying around with the idea of making a bigger version to hold other stuff in. It’s such a pretty bag…

Also, I already have my eye on another project! You guessed it, it’s another shawl. Well, sort of. I an dying to knit the Modern Quilt Wrap from Folk Style (especially since it’s a free pattern on Knitting Daily!). It looks so warm and cozy, and it’s the perfect opportunity to play around with colours! I’m going to have so much fun planning out the colour choices for this; there are nine colours given in the pattern! This would be a good stash-buster if a) There was a lot of yarn in my stash that was the correct weight and b) I had a bigger stash. Maybe I could pester the Faery; our anniversary is coming up… (evil cackle)

I think that’s it for now. I’m going to take some more Sudafed and crawl back under the covers. Urgh.
